The Community We Are All Longing For

The Community We Are All Longing For

James Barlow explores how we are all longing for a place to belong — somewhere we are known, loved, and supported. He reflects on the early church and how remarkable it was at offering exactly that. In a culture often marked by division and self-interest, the early believers stood out by sharing meals, caring for the sick, supporting the poor, and welcoming outsiders. Their life together made the message of Jesus real and compelling.

In this talk, James shares why community is central to following Jesus, including a story of how meals and friendship carried people through a difficult season, and how St. Andrew’s new Groups are one way to live this out today.

Groups are smaller, intentional spaces where people can get to know one another, share life, pray, and grow in faith. They are not meant to replace what already happens on Sundays but to provide deeper opportunities for connection.

Currently, two Groups are running — St. Andrew’s Women and Sam & Beth’s Group — with another one in the works. Interested participants can speak to the leaders on a Sunday.

This talk invites everyone to step into the kind of community we are all longing for, and into the full life that Jesus offers.
